When I lived in Arlington (a Washington D.C. suburb) in my late 20s, I wanted to move to a small town. I hated the traffic, the cost of living, the constraints. So my wife and I moved to Charlottesville. We moved exactly 13 years ago this month. We love it, but I’m not sure it’s where we will be forever.
Up until the last 3 to 4 years, NYC was not on my list of places I would ever consider living. I enjoyed the 5 to 10 times that I had visited, but it never took a hold of me.
Recently through my business trips, I have really grown to like New York. I like the people. I like the vibe. I like the speed. I’m not saying we would ever move there, but I do think about it more than I ever did. I find it odd that when I was engaged/married and without kids, I wanted to move to the country. Now here I am with 3 little kids and I’m more attracted to living in the city than I’ve ever been in my life.
